Asquith-City Bursary Scheme
January 2009 Report
As many of you know, the JCC is funding a half-Bursary for seven years for a boy who started at CLS in September 2002. The Headmaster used one of his sources of Matched Funding to top it up to a full Scholarship.
During my year as President I launched an Appeal to raise funds for a second half-Bursary and many Old Citizens are now making contributions. Indeed enough of you stepped forward and a boy started at CLS in September 2006. Once again the Headmaster found Matching Funds to top it up a full Scholarship.
Our first half-Bursary was funded from JCC charitable funds. It comes to its natural end this September and our Charity no longer has sufficient resources to commit to another seven years of funding. Naturally I think we’d all like to see the JCC make another Bursary available to the School and in January 2008 I appealed to all Old Citizens to contribute.
Several OCs generously responded and we’re now tantalisingly close to having sufficient funding for a further seven years. I’m therefore repeating my appeal for contributions to this worthy cause.
To provide the necessary £6,000 a year requires just forty OCs to agree to pay as little as £10 a month for seven years. For every pound you give we now get an additional 25 pence from the Gift Aid tax credit and the Headmaster then finds Matching Funds to take your £1 up to £2.50.
Members who would prefer to make a lump sum contribution could give a multiple of £840 (seven years at £10 a month), and those who prefer annual payments could give multiples of £120 (twelve months at £10).
Contributing to a Bursary is one of the most valuable ways we OCs can give something back to our School. This is particularly true if you were yourself in receipt of a Scholarship or Bursary when you attended CLS. Without the generosity of previous benefactors, or even the ratepayer (sadly no longer contributing), you would not now be reaping the benefit of a CLS education.
Please download this combined Gift Aid and Bankers Order form, complete and return it to me at the address quoted.
With your support we should be able to continue the first Bursary in September.
Thanks for your support.
